Solar energy in Lorraine: photovoltaic leaders

Ranked fourth in France for overall energy production, Lorraine is also the seventh largest producer of solar thermal energy and the second largest producer of solar photovoltaic energy.

A strong economic environment

The solar energy sector has found in Lorraine an industrial environment conducive to its rapid and sustainable development. Some examples :

The company Viessmann, located in Faulquemont (Moselle), is the first French manufacturer of solar collectors. It has also developed a skills center for the production of solar thermal collectors and hot water tanks.

Carbone Lorraine, a company born in Lorraine and now established worldwide, is a leader in high-temperature applications of isostatic graphite, a component of photovoltaic cells.

The total has created a subsidiary, Total Solar Energy, to develop its photovoltaic projects and plans to set up a silicon wafer production unit for the photovoltaic industry, in partnership with the Vernejoul mine site in Porcelette (Moselle). GDF Suez.

The solar already well present in Lorraine

Lorraine ranks second in France in terms of photovoltaic equipment with 6% of installations and the third largest national private solar thermal equipment with 8% of installations.

On the industrial side, the Lehning laboratories in Sainte-Barbe (Moselle) were the first to opt for solar energy production (heating and hot water production).

More recently, the Schlossberg football stadium in Forbach (Moselle) was equipped with a photovoltaic panel roof for the production of electricity and domestic hot water.
