There are a lot of different garage doors that come onto the market. All sorts of different styles, colors and materials are entering the marketplace at different times from different manufacturers. The thing is though, when it comes to garage doors some materials are much better suited for a garage door than others. One of those reasons is that garage door repairs with some materials just become nearly impossible. Take for instance the glass garage door. Glass garage doors for instance are a repair nightmare.
Glass garage doors can be found some places and they follow the same idea as glass doors and sliding glass doors usually. They look great honestly, but practically they just don’t make sense for most people. Glass garage doors will not only be a garage door repair nightmare, but you most likely won’t be able to repair them most of the time. A panel just can’t be replaced when there is a small crack or scratch when it comes to glass, instead the whole things needs to be replaced. With glass you can only make it smaller or replace it, and with something like a garage door making it smaller isn’t really an option.
Why then do people get glass doors if they are so tough to keep? It is certainly an easy way to show off and so if you have got the money to blow then it makes sense. You can show off any cars that you own without ever having to raise the door. You can also show off that you don’t need to worry about smaller expenses like a new garage door. For the rich person in a place that doesn’t have too much extreme weather, the glass garage door is not an awful idea if they think the look is worth it.
For everyone else though it’s a pretty awful idea. Anyone who lives in an area with high winds or any sort of extreme weather will pretty quickly have a shattered glass door in their garage and on their driveway more than they’d like. This also goes for if you have kids. A glass garage door is extremely unsafe if it breaks and with kids that is more of an inevitability than a possibility.
Glass garage doors are not one of your typical choices when it comes to garage doors and that is because of all of these reasons. There are a number of things that can be done, not always in the pursuit of looks, but things that just probably only work as the exception to a variety of factors rather than actually being a more mainstream success.
If you are looking to make a splash with your garage door choice and want to show off your cars maybe, you probably should look elsewhere for that type of look. If you want a stylish choice try and go modern or maybe with a carriage style garage door. If showing of your interior is important try and ask about windows that seriously show off what is in your garage and make that the focus.
Choosing your garage door, no matter what your goals, is a tough thing to do if you have a lot of ideas. However, one thing you can probably rule out already is glass as the material for your garage door. It most likely isn’t an option, but if it is brought up make sure to think about all the shortcomings that go with it.
